Beginner Chinese Class

The Beginner Chinese course is designed for learners with zero or no previous systematic study of the Chinese language. If you are interested in Chinese but have no clue where to start, this is the best option for you. Whatever your learning goals, the Beginner Chinese course helps you to practice Chinese pronunciation, and build language scaffolding to lay a solid foundation for future learning.


Start a Beginner Chinese class if you

  • Have zero Chinese learning background but want to start; 
  • Have learned a little bit but  already forgot;
  • Meet Chinese friends and would like to converse with them


This course covers HSK levels 1 and 2. Upon completion, students can reach to HSK Level 2 (corresponding to A2 in CEF). Also, there are multiple pathways after completing this course, such as Conversational Chinese, Business Chinese or HSK series courses. The Beginner Chinese course is expected to take between 40-50 sessions to complete.


What to expect

Master Pinyin (Chinese phonetic alphabet) and understand the tone sandhi,

Understand the sentence structure and be able to construct a full sentence,

Conduct simple conversations on the following topics:

  • Introduce yourself (name, age, nationality, occupation etc.) 
  • Shopping (asking price and bargain)
  • Ask and give direction
  • Express inquiry and ask permission 
  • Describe the weather 
  • Describe daily routine, weekend plan and experience by using different time tense structure

The Beginner Chinese course teaching material is based on the HSK series textbook (Level 1 and Level 2). It includes a wealth of practice activities to increase the rate of recurrence of language points and sentence patterns, effectively helping students to repeat the exercises and build a good foundation in Chinese language learning. Students are expected to understand 300 vocabularies after completion of HSK Level 2. At the end of each session, the tutor will send the materials to the students for self-study and revision.
